The Beast


This game was made for the Wowie Jam 4.0  with the theme of Collaborating with AI.

The idea for the game came to me almost immediately. The programming did not.

Never have I struggled so much with simple mechanics as I did with this game. At time of writing, I still have one day to perfect and tweak the game, but it is complete as far as I am concerned. Not that I don't like it, but that I am ready for it to be done so I can get back to working on Cattery Collect!


Anyway, the logic puzzles in this game are brief, but the programming that went into them is anything but. The first day of the jam, I made the project and tried to get the mechanics to work. They would not. I got frustrated, deleted everything, and decided to make a generic side scrolling shooter that used an "AI" to not fire when you were in front of it. I was exhausted so I went to bed. 


When I woke, I decided that I couldn't make a crappy side scrolling shooter and that I HAD to make my idea work. So I scrapped the side scroller and remade everything from scratch...AGAIN.


I finally got the programming done. i added obstacles, checkpoints, and sounds along with more level design that originally planned. It's not much, but it's honest work. 


The result of nearly a day straight of work is a game that takes less than five minutes to play. I'm not displeased with it. I worked on Cattery Collect for 9 days, so crunching more mechanics than that into a single day (for me) was a daunting, yet completed, task. Overall I like what I made and I hope players get a little satisfaction out of playing it. I look forward to future jams!
